Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-09-09

Liberra LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("Liberra", "we", "our", "us"), makes Liberra, a DRM-free audiobook player. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We have written it in plain language — if anything is unclear, email us at [email protected].

1. Who We Are

Liberra provides the Liberra mobile application (iOS and Android). If you have questions or requests about your data, contact us at [email protected].

2. What We Collect and Why

2.1 Account — Email Address

When you create a Liberra account you provide an email address. We use it to authenticate you (sign in, magic link, password reset). Your session token is stored in the device's encrypted SecureStore; it is never written to unprotected storage.

Basis: Account creation and authentication.

2.2 Audiobook Files You Upload (Liberra-hosted storage tiers)

If you subscribe to a paid Liberra storage plan, your audiobook files are uploaded to and stored in our cloud storage, operated on your behalf. Files are associated with your account and accessible only to you. We do not read, analyse, or share the contents of your audio files.

Basis: Providing the storage service you purchased.

2.3 Cloud Folder Connections (Dropbox / OneDrive)

You may optionally connect your own Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive account to let Liberra sync audiobooks from folders you choose. To keep the sync running when the app is in the background, we securely hold your access token on our servers. We access only the specific folders you select; we do not read, index, or share any other files in your cloud storage.

Basis: Providing the folder-sync feature you opted into.

2.4 Subscription Billing (Stripe)

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe, your card details are entered directly into Stripe's secure checkout and are never transmitted to or stored by Liberra. We receive from Stripe only a non-sensitive customer ID and subscription status so we can unlock the correct storage tier for your account.

Basis: Fulfilling your subscription and enforcing storage quotas.

2.5 Book Information Lookups

When you import an audiobook, Liberra may send book identifiers (such as title, author, or ISBN) to third-party book-information services to fetch metadata like cover art, author, narrator, and description. No personal information about you is included in these lookups.

Basis: Enriching your library with accurate metadata.

2.6 Collection Cover Photos

If you choose a custom photo for a collection cover, the app opens the iOS/Android system photo picker. When you are signed in, the selected image is stored with your account so your collections look the same across your devices. We use the image only to display your collection cover.

Basis: Personalising and syncing your collections across your devices.

2.7 Listening Activity

We record listening activity such as playback progress, listening time, and streaks, associated with your account. We use it to (a) sync your progress and stats across your devices, and (b) in aggregated, de-identified form, understand overall app usage to improve Liberra and inform our business decisions.

Basis: Providing cross-device sync, and our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the service.

2.8 Usage & Diagnostic Analytics

We collect app usage and diagnostic information — such as which features are used, app performance, and error/crash data — to understand how Liberra is used, fix problems, and improve the product. We may review this data in aggregate for product and business insights. We do not use it to build advertising profiles or to track you across other companies' apps and sites.

Basis: Our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and improving the service.

International transfers. Liberra's service providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data is transferred out of the EU/EEA or UK, that transfer is covered by the providers' Data Processing Agreements and Standard Contractual Clauses (or an equivalent approved mechanism). We do not require data to be stored in any specific region.

4. Service Providers

To operate Liberra we rely on third-party service providers that process data on our behalf — including cloud hosting and storage, our analytics provider, and our payment processor. Each acts under a contract that limits them to providing their service to us. We only partner with providers that maintain strong security and privacy practices and industry-standard protections (such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, where applicable).

Each provider's own privacy policy governs the data they handle on their infrastructure.

5. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • Location data — Liberra never requests or records your precise or approximate location.
  • Contacts — We do not access your device's contacts or address book.
  • Microphone / audio recording — Audio permissions are used exclusively for background playback of your own audiobooks. We do not record your voice or surroundings.
  • Advertising identifiers — We do not use advertising SDKs, ad networks, or advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID).
  • Cross-app/cross-site tracking — We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not sell or share your personal information for advertising.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Account deletion: You may delete your Liberra account at any time by emailing [email protected]. Liberra will delete your account and associated data on request, including your account email, stored audiobook files, cover photos, listening activity, and any cloud-folder tokens we hold.
  • Aggregated data: Aggregated, de-identified usage data that can no longer be linked to you may be retained for analytics and business purposes.
  • Stripe: Deleting your Liberra account cancels your subscription; Stripe retains transaction records as required by applicable financial regulations.
  • Device data: App uninstall removes data cached locally on your device; data stored with your account remains until you delete your account.

7. Children's Privacy

Liberra is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.

8. Security

We use HTTPS/TLS for all data in transit, and our cloud providers encrypt data at rest. Authentication tokens are stored in the device's encrypted SecureStore. We restrict access to your personal data to personnel and systems that need it to provide the service.

9. Your Rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data — just email [email protected] and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We never charge a fee for honoring these requests.

EU / UK (GDPR). If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our lawful basis for processing is performance of our contract with you (providing the app and your account) and our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and improving the service.

California (CCPA/CPRA). If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Liberra does not sell or share your personal information, so there is no "opt out of sale" to exercise.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top and, where required by law, provide notice through the app or by email. Continued use of Liberra after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
